How can I become a member? How much does it cost?
You can become a member at our pub nights and coffee afternoons (see the regular events section for more information!). At both there should be a committee member with a laptop.
In addition you can become a member at our irregular special events (eg ceilidhs, salsa nights, culture evenings etc)
Membership is currently £4 and allows you discount tickets for our events, commercial discounts, inclusion in our newsletter and allows you to come on our excellent weekend trips around Scotland and the UK. We thoroughly recommend membership.
I am not a student can I still become a member?
Yes. Up to 20% of our members can be non-students.

How can I contact the International Society?
For members: guinternational at gla.ac.uk
For external organisations: isocpresident at gla.ac.uk

How can I be informed about your events?

Become a member and you will receive our newsletter. It is well worth it!

How can I buy a ticket for International Society Events?
See our newsletter and ISoc web site for where to buy ticket.

What happens if I have to cancel my ticket?
We are a non-profit organisation and the money from ticket sales goes directly into booking facilities. We do not offer refunds for tickets. We also do not have the resources to arrange for your ticket to be transferred to someone else, especially at the last minute.
The best advice we can offer is to think about the dates in advance and give as much notice as possible if you cannot attend a trip. It may be possible to link you up with someone in a waiting list however we do not guarantee the organisers, who are student volunteers and deal with a lot of correspondence, will even have the time to attempt it.

In consideration of our volunteers we advise contacting them or us as early as possible, as they will be quite busy and burdened in the days immediately preceding the event, trying to make it as good as possible for everyone.

Do you have any alcohol free events?
Many of our events are alcohol free. We aim to have a movie night and coffee afternoon every single week, and also offer day trips around Scotland.
Other events like pub night, weekend trips and club nights etc may have some alcohol but noone is under any pressure to drink anything. I personally never drink at ISoc events, in order that people from places where alcohol is an issue feel comfortable.

I am new to Glasgow, where and how can I find more friends?
Come along to one of our pub nights or coffee afternoons. Don’t feel shy – it’s totally normal for new people just to come up and say hello and for people to approach you and introduce themselves.

How can I become a committee member?
Our meetings are normally at 6pm in one of the QM Committee Rooms (ask at reception). Feel free to join us. Only our office bearer positions are elected – anyone can become a committee member if they are passionate about international students. All of our positions are volunteer positions and nobody in ISoc is paid, not even the President.

Do you offer any thing for postgraduate students?
Yes. We have a range of events which are of interest to postgraduate students. Contact us at guinternational at gla.ac.uk for more information.

I lost my membership card, how can I get a new one?
If you see a committee member with the ISoc laptop, just ask them for another one at coffee afternoons or pub nights. No charge.

How can I meet more Scottish people so I can improve my English?
Join the international society and meet people from around the world, including America, Canada, Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. But you can still join other societies too and meet Scottish people there, and we recommend that you do this.

Do you organize cultural activities?
At the time of writing we have organised nation-themed events like a Scottish-Chinese culture night. We are always interested in holding cultural events – just imagine what you could do if you had the resources of ISoc behind you and let us know your ideas!

What is the difference between SRC, International Office and ISoc?
SRC represents students to the University hierarchy, and can also offer you advice over issues related to landlords, accommodation, etc which are common to all students. They are run by a paid student Executive, staff and student volunteers.
The international office handles everything to do with visas, advice for international students, etc. They are run by staff from the Fraser building.
The international society runs social events which have the ISoc logo associated with them. We are run exclusively by volunteers.

How big is the International Society?
We typically have around 1,000 members in a given year.
